You aren’t cut out to be an operator if you cann

You aren’t cut out to be an operator if you cannot run, swim, and ruck long distances.

Winter is a great time of year to train. Train outdoors and in the elements. You won’t be running on a treadmill during selection or as an operator so train like you fight.

Mental and physical limitations need to be crushed. Push yourself in training. You need to find out what it feels like to push your body to its limits. Your mindset is built and grit is essential when you push to this level.

Develop your run, ruck, and swim distances smartly. Many people push to too many miles of running too soon in their training, getting injured along the way. Train smart and use a coach and training plan. Getting to 30+ miles of running per week, rucking 9 miles, and swimming sub 70 minute 2-nautical miles takes time and a training progression to reach these levels.

During selection, you will be cold. You will be sandy. You will be exhausted. But you would not have it any other way.

The more people that quit along the way, the stronger your will becomes, and your resolve deepens.

The harder it gets, the more you learn to let go. Everything that seemed significant fades away in the rawness of what you are going through.

It’s way beyond the “never quit” mindset often talked about.

You have to be a savage inside and out.

One of the biggest reasons SEAL candidates fail at BUD/S is that they approach the selection pipeline with the mindset that if they pass the screening test, they must be ready for the pipeline.

This also goes for other SOF selection pipelines. The screener is NOT prep for the actual “selection” in front of you.

In order for you to be successful you MUST train and prepare beyond what most people do.

Screening test scores are a good indicator of your general fitness level and your ability to train.

But what about your strength numbers, swim distances, run times, rucking abilities, pool skills, speed training, calisthenic numbers, run distances, and skills prep?

What about the intense physical VOLUME that your body can handle. It’s a savage environment that most are underprepared for.

🧠Your mindset going into selection should be this: You are fighting for one of 20 spots, everything is a competition, and BUD/S is the job interview to become a SEAL.

If you want different results than the average you MUST do things they are not willing to do.

You MUST be willing to get out of your comfort zone to a greater degree.

You MUST go all in and quit negotiating your decision.

⚠️ Always use a buddy.

Don’t try to push your limits on your own.

During selection, everyone quickly learns that it takes a team to succeed.

You can’t ❌ get far on your own.

BUD/S drills this into SEAL candidates. Boat crew races and log pt are team evolutions and, you must stay within 6 feet from your swim buddy at all times.

Teamwork becomes even more apparent when you become an operator. I’ve been out on missions with only 4 people. Everyone is at the top of their game and an expert at multiple skills. You lean on each other and trust each other with your lives.

Train hard to be an asset to your boat crew or team. Don’t be the weak link. Be a top performer.
